A delegation of Board and leadership of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia at the Jubilee House.
The delegation discussed the plights of the Ghanaian farmers and how to improve their produce and export to the global market. 
 The meeting also to discussed issues of concern to Ghanaian farmers, particularly the impact of climate change and the importance of irrigation to year round farming. 
The peasant farmers discussed a number of issues and challenges concerning their farming activities, which they appealed to government through the Vice President to help address.
Issues raised included amelioration of financial obligations on farmers , as well as financial support for farmers , import levies on farming equipment and difficulty in clearing and exporting farming material from the port.
The meeting also discussed consideratiion of tax rebates to corporate organizations that support the peasant farming activities.
The Farmers Association of Ghana during the meeting appealed to the government to support its members against the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
 
According to the association, the situation had impacted negatively on the members’ operations, for which reason the government must go to their aid to save their farming businesses from collapse.
 
“We are calling on the the government to put in place satisfactory measures to lift us out of the current challenges,” it stressed.
The Vice-President in response took the opportunity to explain the various measures the central government is taking to ensure the construction of dams, especially the Pwalugu multipurpose dam, for whose construction Government will engage the World Bank and also invite private sector participation.
 In the meantime, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated that GHC 253 million has been allocated in the 2023 budget towards the construction of the Pwalugu dam. 
He noted that when completed Pwalugu will, at 25,000 hectares, almost double the amount of irrigable land in Ghana while controlling yearly flooding from the spillage of the Bagre dam and provide 60mw of electricity.
Vice President reiterated government's commitment towards supporting the farmers in the country.
