Part of Wassa Akropong Flooded After 5 Hours of Downpour
According to residents and victims, illegal mining has contributed to the flooding hence their appeal to the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality to come to their aid.
About 800 poultry farms have been swept away after five hours of downpour at Wassa Akropong in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality in the Western region.
Even though there were no record of fatalities as at the time of filing this report yet considerable damage to infrastructure including houses, poultry farm, buildings, and animals have collapsed.
Speaking to SoireeNews Western regional Correspondent Oppong Kyekyeku, the Chie Executive Officer (CEO) of Nana Krofa farms, Nana Krofa together with other affected residents revealed that, the incident happened at 12 midnight after the five-hour downpour. He accused illegal mining as the cause of the disaster that has been going on in the municipality

He and affected victims are therefore appealing to authorities, NGOs, and the government to come to their aid
Meanwhile, the Municipal NADMO coordinator, Nana Kumi Dafour says reports have been sent to the Regional Director and the municipal Assembly to mobilize help for the victims and advised residents to stay away from waterlogged areas and deceit from human activities which leads to flooding.
The Municipal Chiefs Executive of Wassa Amenfi East, Hon. Helina Appiah appealed to residents to end building in waterlogged areas and maintain proper sanitation in the streams and gutters
