A community in the Obuasi Municipal Assembly has revealed how the consumption of polluted water has affected their menstrual cycle.

Some residents at Apitikooko, a community in the Obuasi Municipal Assembly have revealed how the consumption of polluted water has affected their menstrual cycle.

Some female residents in an engagement with Soireenews stressed that their menses only flow at most twice every month which is a worry to them.

Some disclosed how the previous hospital checkup revealed that their lungs heart and some parts of the body has been infected by the consumption of the polluted water.

Meanwhile, a follow-up by  Adansiman Progressive Association (APA) to the Ghana Water Company Limited has revealed that the water which is consumed by the residents is polluted due to some activities of Anglo-Gold Ashanti hence the water is unsafe for consumption.

The group, Adansiman progressive association, a pressure group in Adansi that is aimed assist inhabitants to live a healthier life today held a press conference at Apitikooko to brief the media on the issues regarding the pollution of streams and boreholes within the community.

The group, therefore, demands the following from the mine:

1. Supply of potable water effective tomorrow 

2. Regular Checkups of inhabitants 

3. Relocation of the entire community

4. Compensation

He stressed that the group together with the community will do all it takes to fight for their freedom.

On her part, Nana Akosua Pomaa, Queen Mother of Apitikooko cried bitterly asking Anglogold Ashanti to assist them with potable water before their early demise occurs due to unsafe water.

The Queen mother, Nana Akosua Pomaa added that Anglogold Ashanti should deploy some of its staff into the community to consume the same water which the inhabitants use for daily activities to testify to their situation.

The Odikro of the community, Nana Yaw Ofori added that the community will demonstrate against the mining giant if they show no interest in curbing the challenge.

He said if the mine decides not to relocate and assist them with their needs, they will head to court to demand their wants from the mine.

Meanwhile, Anglo-Gold Ashanti is yet to comment on the issues raised against them.
