Oppong Nkrumah, Hawa Koomson to face vetting committee today

The vetting of Oppong Nkrumah and Hawa Koomson has been highly anticipated by many Ghanaians, considering the roles they played in Akufo-Addo's first term government

Minister-designate for information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson are scheduled to meet with Parliament’s Appointments Committee today, Thursday, February 18, 2021, to take turns on vetting seat.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah will not be new in the ministry if he is approved by Parliament.

He served as a Deputy Minister from 2017 to 2018 when President Akufo-Addo undertook his government’s first major reshuffle.

He was made the substantive minister after the reshuffle and served in that portfolio until the end of the first term of Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Mavis Hawa Koomson on the other hand served as Minister of Special Development Initiatives, one of the many new ministries created in President Akufo-Addo’s first term.

Hawa Koomson is expected to have a tough time with the committee, following her past shooting incident at a voters’ registration centre in Kasoa.

Some NDC MPs have said they will outrightly reject nominees who have had a past with gun shooting and 'violence'.

“It mustn’t be the case that anybody the president brings even if the person is a thief or a hooligan or somebody who goes about slapping people and shooting people all over the place, the person should be vetted and approved to become a minister,” NDC MP for for Bolgatanga East, Dr Dominic Ayine said in an interview on Metro TV's "Good Evening Ghana"

Adwoa Sarfo, Minister for Gender and Children Affairs designate and Ignatious Baffour Awuah, Minister for Employment and Labour Relations had their turn yesterday.
