The Upper East Regional Nutritionist, Madam Gloria Kobati has declared that 18% of women fed their children via Exclusive Breastfeeding for the first six months in 2020.

Speaking at a Press Briefing of the Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Health Service “Start Right Feed Right" campaign launch, Madam Gloria Kobati indicated that in 2020, 18% of women fed their children via exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months as compared to 2019 of only 14%.

According to her, 56% of the children did not receive exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months which is a big challenge and a concern to all health workers and the Nutrition departments of the Ghana Health Service.

Madam Gloria Kobati added that breast milk contains all the required food nutrition that the child needs to grow stronger and healthy.

"Children who get exclusive breastfeeding do not fall sick anyhow but they grow healthier and stronger.”

Madam Gloria Kobati declared the start Right, feed right campaign aims at ensuring that children are feed right from the womb to 2 years.

The Nutritionist revealed that the program will last for one or more years to sensitize women to know the importance of practicing exclusive breastfeeding in the various societies of Ghana.

She however entreated men to support their wives to practice exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.

She revealed that anaemia among women and children in the Upper East Region is still very high which is a problem government should look at.
