Iddrisu Fuseini has unfortunately lost his life as a result of land disturbances at Mpaha in the Central Gonja district of the Savannah Region.

The victim 48 was pronounced dead at the Mpaha Health Center in the process of receiving treatment for a cut on his chest. 

The confusion broke out when Leseinipe and Kejasa communities were claiming ownership of land which brought the two disputed parties to the palace of the Paramount Chief of Debre Traditional area at Mpaha for resolution.

According to the police report by  D/Sgt. Godwin Kasu with the Mpaha Division of the Ghana Police Service, in the early hours of Sunday, May 23, 2021, the police received a call from the Paramount Chief asking for their presence at the palace to secure the grounds before opening and judgement of the case.

D/Sgt. Godwin Kasu further stated that “during the settlement of the issue both parties became aggrieved, started insulting themselves which resulted in fighting between them”.

Some of the people who sustained various degree of injuries were rushed to the Mpaha Health centre and the Holy Family clinic at Kegbirpe for treatment.

A total of four (4) were separately admitted at both health centres. After the judgement was passed on the said land both parties were not happy and had to take the law into their own hands in the presence of the police at the palace.

The dead person’s body however will be transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation as the police investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, in the hit of the disturbances, a re-enforcement of police and military were dispatched from Buipe to support the few men on the ground to calm the situation.
