“Once I am selected as flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will certainly be the one I will be running with" - Nana Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has uttered that selecting a suitable partner "is not a matter that needs any consideration”.

The president officially filed his nominations to contest as flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party and Vice President Muhamadu Bawumia will be his running mate in the impending December 7 presidential elections

The President formalized his bid by presenting his completed nomination forms to the leadership of the party moments after his state of the nation address in Parliament on Thursday.

“Once I am selected as flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will certainly be the one I will be running with," he wrote on his facebook page.

Since the President was the only person to have picked and filed nominations to run as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2020 polls, he will be acclaimed at the NPP’s national congress, as convention would have it.

“On Thursday, 20th February, 2020, after delivering the Message on the State of the Nation, I went to the headquarters of the New Patriotic Party, at Asylum Down, to file my nomination ahead of the conduct of the presidential primary,” he wrote on his facebook handle.

This will set up the third, and possibly, final competition between the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and his opponent on the other side, the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama as to who wins the 2020 Presidential polls.

Both would have served as president for one full term at the time of the 2020 polls and will be seeking a second shot at the Presidency. Though John Mahama has officially served one full term as president, he has cumulatively served as president of the land for at least six (6) years following the passing of John Evans Atta Mills.
