NPP’s Ashanti Regional head office faces eviction over rent arrears
The landlady and her son stormed the office on Friday interrupting an on-going meeting
The Ashanti Regional office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) faces possible eviction over an allegation of three years rent arrears by the landlady.
The landlady and a man believed to be her son, on Friday stormed the office interrupting an on-going meeting by the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) to drive home her demands.
The TESCON members were forced to call off their meeting and move to a nearby place.
Speaking to the media, Emmanueal Yankson, the supposed son of the landlady said a five-year agreement which took effect in 2014 between the two parties was overdue. According to him, rent amounting to ¢36,000 is currently in arrears.
He stated that his elder brother rented out the facility to the NPP for ¢1000 every month for five years.
"Both parties agreed to renegotiate after every two years but such has never happened in more than 8 years." He said.
Meanwhile the leadership of the NPP in the Ashanti region is said to hold an emergency meeting with the landlady to address the issue.
