The New Patriotic Party will hold Parliamentary primaries on April next year in areas where it has sitting MP’s

95 Parliamentary candidates have been selected to contest in areas where the party does not have sitting MPs.

April 25, 2020 would also be the scheduled date to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2020 Elections. A National Council Meeting for the party was held yesterday, October 21, 2019 to verify the date after the former, January 12, 2019 was complained by sitting MP’s of being too short to embark on a campaign.

According to the statement of the General Secretary of the NPP, Mr John Boadu a press briefing after the meeting, the council measured the programmes of the party and government before allocating the month of April as the favorable time.

"We took into consideration a lot of government programmes and party programmes and all that and also in consultation with our Members of Parliament and that date is set for us to hold the primaries,"

He said the National Council also took a decision that until "nominations for these primaries are open, members of our party must be cautious and not do anything that goes contrary to the rules and regulations of the party, and the rules and regulations are that, until nomination is opened, no member of our party is expected to start campaigning."

Nomination fees for the aspiring MPs have been pegged at GH¢2000 and GH¢20,000 for filing fees whilst that of the presidential aspirants has been pegged at GH¢20,000 as nomination fee and GH¢200,000 as the filing fee.
