NPP Primaries: Upper West Regional Minister, others accused of injustice and unfair treatment

Some aggrieved Members of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Sissala West constituency of the Upper West Region, have accused Upper West Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, Upper West Regional Chairman of the NPP S. B Kangbere and a host of other stalwarts of the elephant family of spearheading injustice and unfair treatment in the party’s internal election.

The process leading to the elections turns bloody in the Sissala West constituency after the constituency’s NASSARA Coordinator of the party was butchered by thugs reportedly linked to their opposing candidate Limman Majeed who is believed to have been in bed with Chairman S.B Kangbere and the Upper West Regional Minister Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih.

“The constituency Nasara Coordinator Mr. Iddrisu Walaika Kinshasha was butchered and he is now at the Wa regional hospital battling for his life. The group that committed this heinous crime is obviously sponsored by one Limman Majeed who the Regional Chairman and the Regional Minister have been machinating and intimidating party faithfuls to give pathway for him (Majeed) to become the constituency Chairman” the group stated.

In a press conference at Gwollu,  Abdul Rauf Zini, Sissala West NPP Constituency Secretary who read the speech on behalf of the aggrieved group again alleged that, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih hired the services of some thugs from Wa to Fatchu a community in the Sissala West Constituency where the hired thugs held the Chief and elders of Fatchu and some party gurus hostage for about two (2) hours and subsequently destroyed the Constituency chairman’s car and vandalized 10 motorbikes too.

“We are convinced this same Minister with the help of his aid (Yeboah) hired thugs from Wa who were used by Majeed and Bakor a Former DCE in Fatchu even though police was informed the previous day that armed men were in the Hon. Bakor’s pick up but police has since not effected any arrest”.

He continues “they used these thugs to hold the chief and elders of Fatchu, the IT Officer, the 2020 parliamentary candidate, Constituency Chairman, organizer and Research and Elections Officer hostage for close to two hours in the Chiefs’ palace.  This resulted in the destruction of the Constituency Chairman’s vehicle and over ten motor bikes were vandalized. These thugs assaulted this NASARA coordinator and several other people got wounded with fractures of the arm”.

Clad in red bands, the group further alleged that Limman Majeed, the purported choice of the Regional Minister had indicated to his boys that he has the Ministers’ weight behind him and that of the Regional Chairman and thus ordered his boys to brutalize anybody they so wish.

“Majeed does all these because he has indicated that he has the Regional Minister and Regional Chairman in his pockets hence, his boys should feel free to brutalize anybody and nothing will happen. The incidences in Buoti,Fatchu, Kusali and Kuntulo confirmed the claim of Majeed and the fact that Chairman Kangbere claimed that it was only Mr. Patrick Alhassan Adama {fomer Sissala West MP and Political Godfather of Mr. Majeed} that supported him with GHS100, 000 during his elections in 2018 and he cannot disregard him and has to do his interest” the Constituency Secretary stated.

The group concluded by stressing that, the inactiveness of the security personnel getting perpetrators of the Fatchu incident and the other brutalities meted out to people by the said thugs and some of the alleged state’s sponsored security officers must be investigated by the National Security Minister.

They also called on the Ministers of Defense and Interior to call the Upper West Regional Minister to answer questions why he deployed over 150 police and military personnel in armored vehicles to the constituency that got people intimidated during the conduct of the 28 polling stations elections.

“We also want to ask the BNI (NIB) what has happened to Mr. Bakor when he used his vehicle to carry armed thugs to terrorize some members of the polling station elections committee and the chief and people of Fatchu? This is because the BNI officer was clear and categorical in a DISEC meeting 2nd March, 2022 when he said he had to overtake the Vehicle of Bakor’s car with armed thugs who carried out the attack in Fatchu. We called on the National Security Minster to call on the Gwollu BNI Officer, the District Police Command to explain to the whole world what has become of the Fatchu case”.

The statement adds “we are calling on the National Security Minister, the Minister of Defense and Interior Minister to call on the Regional Minister to explain what accounted for his used of 2 armoured cars and 150 military and police officers to terrorize party boys just for 28 polling station elections. The Military was used to brutalize and terrorize party members in kusali, Liplime just to satisfy a certain Majeed. Majeed boys are now emboldened to move around Gwollu town brutalizing people. It’s an open secret that whatever they do the Regional Minister and the Regional Chairman are behind them”.

However, at the time of filing this report, none of the people accused by the aggrieved NPP members in the Sissala West Constituency had responded yet to the claims raised by the group.
