North Tongu District Director Of Education Alarms Over Drugs Abuse By Students In Our Schools
Worried over this heartbreaking incident, Mrs Ayimey called for effective collaboration strategies and efforts to find lasting solutions to drugs abuse in schools.
The North Tongu District Education Director, Mrs Isabella Regina Ayimey has expressed worry about the increasing rate of the use of illegal drugs, mostly marijuana by the high population of students in the Ghana's schools.
Worried over this heartbreaking incident, Mrs Ayimey called for effective collaboration strategies and efforts to find lasting solutions to drugs abuse in schools.
"It is a high time us to talk more about drug
abuse in our schools now. The social vices, negative peer pressure, drug and substance abuse are serious issues that require "our collective actions to fight against these problems in our society," she noted.
Mrs Ayimey Mrs Isabella Regina Ayimey whose speech was read on her behalf by Madam Esther Dunenu Amponi when she joined members of the Mepe Reform Union to hamd over the ultra-modern head teacher's bungalow to the authority of Mepe St. Kizito Senior High Technical School on December Thursday 5, 2024.
The Mepe Reform Union, an esteemed association involving chiefs, queen-mothers and people of Mepe Traditional Area has taken tremendous efforts to single-handedly renovate the teacher's bungalow.
The Priest of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church at Mepe, Mark Mandela Anyigba with supreme support of the executives of Mepe Reform Union and Headmaster of Mepe St. Kizito Senior High Technical School, Mr Jerry John Atsu has officially performed the cutting of the tape to unveil the headteacher's bungalow. It was handed over to the management of the school.

was done through the Union's Schools Initiative Programme (SIP) to promote good quality education and educational infrastructure development in the area.
The union under the leadership of Mr. Senanu Asitiakor has realised that the state of poor educational infrastructure in some schools at Mepe Traditional Area continue to hinder the progress of access to quality education hence it has taken proactive measures to address some issues of school infrastructure improvement in Mepe, with a focus on enhancing the educational environment.
The event which was heavily attended by the residents, members of the various churches at Mepe including teachers, students and political leaders was served as a viable platform for the Union to urge the parents to prioritise the development of their children's interest in the technical disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics (STEM).
"The future of children is here, it is better you
start raising your children to be future-ready so that when they grow up and they are looking for decent jobs or creating jobs for themselves, they will have the necessary and requisite skill set to proceed," the Chairman of Mepe Reform Union, Mr Senanu Asitoakor made the foregoing call in an interview with Soireenews.com on the sideline to officially hand over the keys of the renovated bungalow to the authority of the school.
Mr Asitiakor emphasized the importance of collaboration in the area of science and research and encouraged school children to adopt the spirit of collaboration.
Mr Asitiakor further stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment in our community that foster a culture of reading among students in the schools.
Mr Asitiakor who was the old student of the school emphasized the importance of reading for children's development, stressing that it helps unlock a wealth of knowledge and fosters imagination.
He further urged the parents and guardians to encourage their kids to cultivate the continuous habit of reading and pleaded his outfit commitment to invest in the infrastructure development of the schools at Mepe.
For her part, the North Tongu District Director of Education, Mrs Isabella Regina Ayimey whose speech was read on her behalf expressed her profound appreciation to the members of the Union for making efforts to invest their resources to renovate the school's bungalow and called on the gathering to clap with applause to the Union for its gesture.
She appealed to the Union to continue to lent its unflinching support to the development of the school, stressing that "we are calling on the members of the Mepe Reform Union to continue to help the school since the needs of the school are many."
She also thanked the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Constituency, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa for improving the educational development of the school and humanities.
For his part, the Assistance Headmaster in-charge of Administration of Mepe St. Kizito Senior High Technical School Mr Nicholas Kuvordo warned the students against the use of illegal drugs and he educated them on the use of drugs abuse, its impact on health and how to desist from its use in our society.
He called on all and sundry to talk more about the use of drug/substance abuse in "our schools now."
"We have realised that drug abuse is taking over our schools, neighborhoods, communities and towns and, there are no comprehensive programmes in place to deal with its effects vigorously.
"The drug abuse is having a vey big impact on the young people. In this regard, we are appealling our young people to finally say a very big no to drug or substance abuse," he appealed to the school children.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Headmaster of Mepe St. Kizito Senior High Technical School, Mr Jerry John Atsu in his welcome address thanked the Union for the renovation of the bungalow for the school and assured of making the environment of the bungalow clean.
Mepe St. Kizito Senior High Technical School, formerly known as Mepe Technical Institute was founded in the year 1988 with the core mandate of providing technical training for students in the Mepe community and its environs.
The school took off with an initial enrolment of 24 students and 5 teachers and offered a purely technical programme which included building construction and woodwork.
In the year 1994, the school was absorbed into the public stream of schools and assumed the new name, Mepe St. Kizito Senior High Technical School.
