Ghanaian TV personality Berla Mundi has stated that she has not seen the effect of the government's decision to absorb water bills and has asked other citizens if anyone has gotten free water at all.

Berla stated that she still had to pay her water supplier who refused to render free service to her, telling her that he also needs money to buy fuel to feed his own family even after the government declare its intentions to absorb water bills.

“So for those who buy water from tankers, have you been able to get some for free since the announcement? I had to pay for mine because according to the supplier, he still has to buy fuel and feed his family. #TV3NewDay,” Berla Mundi wrote on Twitter.

President Nana Akufo-Addo in his fifth national address on Sunday, April 5, 2020, disclosed: “Again, the Ghana Water Company Ltd and the Electricity Company of Ghana have been directed to ensure the stable supply of water and electricity during this period.

"In addition, there will be no disconnection of supply. Furthermore, government will absorb the water bills for all Ghanaians for the next three months, i.e., April, May, and June. All water tankers, publicly and privately-owned, are also going to be mobilized to ensure the supply of water to all vulnerable communities.”

Many Ghanaians are yet to benefit from the announcement made by the government to take care of the water bills for April, May and June 2020 following an increase in the country’s coronavirus cases amidst a partial lockdown in some parts of the country to contain its spread.
