No Fix Price For 2021 Cashew Season - Agric Minister
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has revealed that the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) has not fixed a minimum producer price for the 2021 cashew season.

The Minister stated that a parallel engagement with farmers and buyers has resulted in an equilibrium price of Gh¢4.00 to 5.50/kg at the close of the season.

“It’s observed that almost all the parameters and conditions required for the determination of a satisfactory pricing formula are available and accessible,” he said.

His response was in response to a question filed by Member of Parliament for Jaman North, Frederick Yaw Ahenkwah who sought to find out the fixed producer price for the 2021 cashew season.

Meanwhile speaking to XYZ Princess Arita Anim, Mr Ahenkwah expressed the assurance he has found in the minister over TCDA’s process to fix a satisfactory and competitive producer price for Raw Cashew Nuts in the 2022 crop season.

However, he was quick to add that the promise to fix started in 2019 yet, it didn’t happen.

“I hope by January 2022, as the minister informed the house, we will all be expecting it, …let’s wait and see, when we get to the bridge, we shall cross” he stressed.
