Respected Ghanaian pastor and founder of the International Central Gospel Church, Mensa Otabil, has claimed that Christians should take better care of themselves, that prayer alone cannot save them from the menacing jaws of the coronavirus if they ignore safety and preventive measures. 

He revealed this while addressing the members of his church on in a broadcast that was transmitted on social media as a result of the suspension placed on social gatherings of more than 25 persons by the Akufo-Addo led administration.

He claimed that if people only result to prayer and ignore the rod and staff, which is the ability to wash hands with proper hand sanitizers, and disregard the whole knowledge on how to be protected from the Coronavirus, then the prayer will be of no use. 

“God, in the midst of danger, has given us the tools to be protected from destruction and from danger so when we hear things like banning flights and quarantining, and we hear things like border closure and planes not flying, it is part of God’s process to keep us safe. Thy rod and thy staff,” he said.

“The virus does not just get people. It doesn’t have that power. It cannot just run into your room or your house, it cannot run into you and destroy you. Thankfully, it has to be brought to you or you have to take it to somebody. Isn’t it amazing that we know how to stop it? Thy rod and thy staff”, he continued.

Let’s not joke with that because we can pray all we want but if we ignore thy rod and thy staff of God’s protection, we will be in danger”.
