Following the stalling of the construction of the Nkawkwa Sports Stadium, MPs would like to know when it's going to be completed.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Musthapha Ussif has hinted that the Nkawkwa Sports stadium will be completed within two years period. The GHS27 million estimated project financed by the Middle Belt Development Authority is a two-phase project.

The minister made this revelation on the floor of Parliament earlier today when he appeared before the House to answer questions filed by some members of Parliament. The Minister gave the assurance that the stadium which after completion, will serve the good of the sports fraternity by unearthing myriads of hidden talents across the country.

The Minister noted further that the Nkawkwa stadium being one of the stadia intended to be constructed by the government for various constituencies across the country is part of the "One Constituency One AstroTurf Policy" to ensure that every constituency in the country is provided with the modern pitches.

He said the construction of AstroTurf for sporting activities is to reiterate the government's commitment to providing one standard football pitch in selected communities in Ghana. "Sod-cutting for the Nkawkwa Sports Stadium was done on Friday,18 September 2020 by then Sports Minister, Honourable Isaac Asiamah, and work commenced but had to be paused for architectural review on some sections of the stadium, e.g.the sitting capacity, athletic oval, dressing room,  etc", he added.

The Minister stated that the architectural review has been completed and it is expected that the contractor would move to the site. The 8000-seater FIFA standard Football Stadium, with a multi-purpose court for more than 16 sporting disciplines, tennis court, a gymnasium, an IAAF(World Athletics) standard track, hostels, a restaurant, etc.

The Minister noted that the project will be in two phases with the first phase costing GHS14 million while the second phase costing GHS13 million.
