Nigeria to ban foreign models and voice artists

Beginning in October, the Nigerian government will forbid international models and voice actors from appearing in commercials.

According to the nation's governing body for advertising, the action is intended to make sure that prospects for employment are not lost to local talent.

According to the advertising council, Nigerian models have long since been unable to take advantage of commercials that are shown on various media outlets.

The head of the council, Olalekan Fadolapo, asserts that this must end.

Foreign models and voice actors have occasionally been cast by several modeling agencies and production businesses, sometimes in response to client requests.

However, several of the restrictions under this new strategy have prompted criticism.

The prohibition won't go into force until October, according to the council, which claims they are currently working on making it public.

The one-month grace period is designed to provide businesses with active campaign time to complete their terms and avoid incurring losses.

Businesses that disregard this new rule run the danger of receiving fines of up to $2,000 (£1,720).
