Joan Laporta says Neymar desperately wanted to join Barcelona before Lionel Messi’s exodus.

According to the Barcelona president, he was in touch with Neymar over his move from Paris Saint Germain and the Brazilian was “crazy about coming”.

Messi and Neymar’s story has been long written in the sky and one was likely to reunite with the other in the hope of achieving success together.

Having played together for four years at the Camp Nou, the 29-year old Brazilian won eight trophies in four seasons which include two La Liga titles and a Champions League title.

Although Neymar has won nine titles, unfortunately, a second Champions League title continues to elude him and his return to Catalonia was pending.

"We tried to sign Neymar," Laporta told Catalan outlet TV3. "At that moment [after he was elected in March], it seemed like an interesting signing. He got in contact. He was crazy about coming.

"We interpreted fair play in another way at the time. If we had known all the rules [in La Liga], we would not have made that offer."

With Messi having left for PSG, the two could achieve the impossible to fortify their playing career in world football.
