NDC Youth And 'Ghetto Boys'Endorse Samuel Twumasi For Tema West MCE; Kick Against Tribalism And Favouritism 

The Members of the Ghetto Youth for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema West Constituency of the Greater Accra Region are outraged over what they describe as nepotism, tribalism, and favouritism in the current appointment of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema West Municipal Assembly.

In a viral video intercepted by this news outlet, members of the NDC Ghetto Youth were seen expressing their concern and anger over the continuous tagging of Mr. Samuel Twumasi, a potential candidate for the MCE position, as a non-citizen of the Ga-Dangme tribe. 

The members of the group, however, have endorsed Mr. Twumasi for the position, citing his competence and dedication to the party.

Despite their endorsement, the group condemns the tribalism and favouritism displayed by some key leaders of the Ga-Dangme people, who they claim are opposed to Mr. Twumasi's appointment solely because of his tribe.

The members of the group argued that such attitudes are detrimental to the party's unity and progress.

The members of the NDC Ghetto Youth have, therefore, called on the party's leadership to intervene and ensure that the selection process is fair, transparent, and based on merit. They also urged the party to condemn and reject any form of tribalism and favouritism.

The group's endorsement of Mr. Twumasi and their condemnation of tribalism and favouritism have generated mixed reactions within the party, with some members expressing support for their stance while others have criticized their approach.

Some have argued that the group's actions are timely and necessary, while others have accused them of being divisive and disloyal.

The controversy surrounding Mr. Twumasi's potential appointment has sparked a wider debate within the NDC about the role of tribalism and favouritism in the party's decision-making processes.

As the debate continues, the members of the NDC Ghetto Youth have vowed to continue pushing for change and advocating for the interests of marginalized communities within the party.

Their endorsement of Mr. Twumasi has sent a clear message that they will not tolerate tribalism and favouritism, and that they demand a more inclusive and equitable party.

The NDC Ghetto Youth's stance has also been supported by some civil society organizations, who have praised their courage and commitment to fighting against tribalism and favouritism.

They stressed that this dangerous trend of tribal favouritism and exclusion which had surfaced in the appointment of MCE  in the Tema West municipality is not only undermining democracy but also eroding social cohesion, stalling peace and unity of the NDC in the area.

"What we are saying was that the Tema West Constituency is a cosmopolitan area and that the development-oriented Samuel Twumasi who is the famous grassroot person of the NDC is living in the area for the past thirteen (13) years so we are not going to allow the tribal favouritism against Mr Samuel Twumasi," they stressed.

They cited an example that the Tema West Municipality which was not like Tema East and Krowor Municipalities, which were dominated by the of Ga-Dangme tribe.

"But when you come to Tema West Municipality, it was dominated by the Ewes, Fantes, Akans, Northerners and other related tribes and you are sitting there saying that there are Ga-Dangme Caucus. They are using this Caucus as face servicing exercise to be promoting Ga-Dangme citizen to be appointed the current MCE for the Tema West Municipal Assembly. This is would not work. 

"We are vehemently protesting against these divisional tactics being carried by the key leadership of Ga-Dangme people in the area.

"The question was that how many Ga-Dangmes do we have in Tema West municipality. What have been social and infrastructure developmental projects and programmes impact of those Ga-Dangme people in Tema West municipality," they rhetorically asked.

They further entreated these unscrupulous people to stop their tribalism and favouritism attitudes because "when get annoy we believe they are cannot stall,  adding that "We are all one people and we didn't want to encourage this tribal favouritism politics in Tema West municipality."

They were of the view that after twenty-eight (28) years, the Tema West Constituency, if somebody wants to preach tribalism, "we are sorry that we can never won the parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They stressed that 'God be so good we had won the parliamentary seat in the just ended December Saturday 7,2024 general elections and that it is a high time for us to work hard in peace and united front to maintain the Tema West Constituency parliamentary seat."

They stated categorically that for about twenty-eight (28) years, the NDC has never won Tema West Constituency parliamentary seat and that "now that God has given us the strength to work hard to wrestle the parliamentary seat from the NPP and you are bringing this kind of tribalism of Ga-Dangme tribal politics in the appointment of the MCE for the area.

As a grassroot and business oriented person, they noted that Mr Twumasi has an in-depth understanding of the Municipal's geopolitical dynamics, ensuring that he will prioritize the needs of the people and also work hard to ensure that the ruling party is very attractive to the constituents.

They pointed out that his exceptional leadership skills, coupled with his ability to unite people across tribes and backgrounds, make him the ideal candidate to drive progress and development in Tema West municipality.

The leadership of the NDC has yet to officially respond to the controversy, but sources within the party indicate that they are taking the matter seriously and are working to address the concerns of the NDC Ghetto Youth and other stakeholders.

As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the NDC Ghetto Youth's endorsement of Mr. Twumasi and their condemnation of tribalism and favouritism have sparked a critical conversation within the party about the need for greater transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.

He’s a result-oriented person with vast experience in the generation of revenues. Has over ten years experience with the Controller and Accountant General Department and still counting.

This is an Honourable Comrade who has an unmatched experience working with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and Krowor Municipal Assembly (KMA). 

At Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA)! He had the experience of running the affairs of the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, and at the same time the Head of Account at the Waste Management Department, where he unflaggingly worked to live an indelible mark with his astute delivery whiles he was there.

His days at Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), where he diligently worked under the stewardship of Honourable Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware and Honourable Isaac Ashai Odamtten!

He was the head of the Final Account Unit, where he was responsible for the preparation of the Assembly’s Final Financial Statement, Supervises the inflow of the Assembly’s Revenue (IGF) et cetera.

At Krowo Municipal Assembly, he was appointed as the Revenue Account’s Head, where he managed all revenue coming from the Assembly and created the environment for revenue collectors to undergo some form of training in how to smoothly collect revenue from the people who are supposed to pay these revenues.

 Thus, making sure that the Assembly generates its own revenue to make the Assembly run independently with or without the common funds from the government.

These are just some few facts about Honourable Comrade Samuel Twumasi. And this is the calibre of a person we vouching for to be recognized by our respected stakeholders in Tema West Constituency, the Region and National as the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA). 

It’s obvious that Honourable Comrade Samuel Twumasi is going to be the first MCE that already has vast experience in the running of the day-to-day affairs of the Assembly. The first who has worked at the top hierarchy of the Assembly for years in different departments. 

This alone speaks volumes of what he’s capable of delivering when he finally becomes the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA).
