NDC Give Observations THROUGH the President’s 3-Day TOUR in the Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Communication Bereau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has defined President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo’s three-day tour in the Ashanti Region as ‘a complete waste of tax payers money and an insult to the intelligence of inhabitants of the Region.’

The NDC on Monday called for a press conference at their Party Headquarters, Kumasi-Amakom to put across their observations during the President’s three-day tour in the Region.

In a press release issued and signed by the Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the party, Abass Nurudeen, the NDC made known that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by the president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has disappointed and saddened people in the Ashanti Region after failure to deliver many of it's promises to the people after assuming power in 2016.

The main opposition party in the country believe that the legitimate expectation of the good people of Ashanti ‘behind their unflinching show of support will be reciprocated in the form of a corresponding massive infrastructural development, improved living conditions and an enabling environment for businesses to thrive’ yet none of such has happened in the three years reign of the NPP.

The three-day tour of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo which begun on Tuesday, October 8, ended on Thursday, October 10, 2019 in the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party. Although many thought the appearance of Nana Addo was a satisfaction for the reason that concerns over uncompleted and closed infrastructures would be addressed yet according to the NDC, nothing seem different after his departure.

According to the release, majority of resident are still struggling to figure out why the president ‘carried out an entourage of about 200 people and 70 V’8’s from Accra just to inspect ordinary and petty projects’ in a region he acquired almost 1.7 million votes more than the Eastern Region’s 678,000.

“As you already know, no region kept so much faith and confidence in candidate Akuffo-Addo in the 2016 elections more than the Ashanti Region. Indeed, candidate Akufo-Addo garnered close to 1.7 Million votes in the Ashanti Region as compared to 678,000 votes in the home region (thus the Eastern Region).

"Therefore, it was the legitimate expectations of the good people of Ashanti that this unflinching show of support will be reciprocated in the form of a corresponding massive infrastructural development; improve living conditions and an enabling environment for Ashanti businesses to thrive”

“However, the tour has ended, and inhabitants of the Ashanti Region are still struggling to figure out why the President will carry an entourage of about 200 people and 70 V8`s from Accra just to inspect ordinary and petty projects. In the estimation of the people of the Ashanti Region, these are projects that should ordinary be within the domain of Assembly Members and never ever catch Presidential attention.

"After three years in government, the people of Ashanti Region would not be asking for too much, if they demand from President Akufo-Addo legacy and life-impacting projects,” the statement read.

The NDC challenged residents in the NPP’s stronghold to change their approach if their interests would be attended to, relating the affair of the Region and the NPP to ‘a man and his proverbial wife with no genuine affection between them’.

“As it were resident’s Akuffo Addo’s attitude towards the Ashanti Region, the NPP’s ‘World Bank’, can be likened to that of a man and his proverbial old wife when he occasionally sees with no genuine show of affection. Akufo Addo’s recent tour was nothing but a complete waste of the taxpayers money, and an insult to the intelligence of the Ashanti Region.”

The statement assured people of the Ashanti Region not to despair but to persevere in demanding what is their due from a government they overwhelmingly placed their trust in 2016.

“Of course we are aware of recent attempts to suppress legitimate public concern over the stunted pace of development in the region under this sterile Akufo-Addo government. We in the NDC will continue to hold this government accountable to their promise to the people of the Ashanti Region even as President Akufo Addo remains on borrowed time to a humiliating defeat in 2020.
