The former Municipal Chief Executive for Asunafo North and one of the founding members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Mohamed Kwaku Doku has said, the Party formed some 29 years had its symbol of the umbrella from the then Brong Ahafo Region by one Omanba Kwaku Agyemang from Berekum.

He made this revelation on issues with Kwasi Kyei Bafour saying, the claim by the wife of the founder of the Party Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlins was nothing compelled to the truth.

He explained the circumstances that led to the introduction of the umbrella as some 20 members committee led by Kwadwo Chikata sat on April 1992 in Sunyani to deliberate on the symbol to be used.

He added that the originator Omanba Kwaku Agyemang brought the umbrella idea which the chairman of the committee in Bono Ahafo, led by Kwadwo Mahama Adam sent to the National council where they accepted it out of lots of symbols presented from across the Country.

He added that Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlins was a graphic designer who was tasked to design the colures by her husband and that could not give her that ownership of it as she claimed.

Mr Doku however said at the funeral of Honourable Kwadwo Mahama Adams in 2002 that the late former President Rawlins attributed the ownership of the umbrella idea to him when speaking about what he did for the Party.
