Youth Coalition for Progress at Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency on Thursday, September 26 2019 organized a protest match contrary to government's ‘sleepiness’ on the never- ending heavy traffic congestion on the Abuakwa Sofoline road.

The ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration was organized by the able men and women in the suburbs of Abuakwa and Tanoso to caution the Municipal Chief Executive on how vehicular congestion is affecting their lives. Residents plying the road to their various work places have to embrace traffic congestion for hours, which according to protestors, has and is costing their jobs and rendering them unemployed due to delays in reporting to work.

The demonstrators dressed in red and black colors held signs and boards bearing the writings, “Traffic Congestion, eating our productive time,” “Fix Sofoline Tanoso Abuakwah Road now,” “The suffering of people must be of interest to you Mr. President,” “the people of Atwima Nwabiagya have been neglected for far too long,” and many others. The march started at Abuakwah through the highway to ‘Nso Nyame Ye’ and concluded at Tanoso with chants.

Market women involved spoke to Soiree News that the frustration is affecting their families for the reason that they wake up at dawn to overcome the traffic situation in order to arrive early at market places, which negatively affect their children with no one to prepare them for school.

Motorists had to linger in the congestion from Abuakwa to Sofoline, wasting four to five hours on the road only. The Sofoline Interchange was notioned to curb the vehicular mobbing on the road yet the challenge has been curtailed to affect inhabitants at Abuakwah and Tanoso. The expansion of the road from Asuoyeboah to Sofoline into dual carriage has animated much cars plying towards to Nkawie,Sunyani and other citiies which jams on the single carriage lane from I.P.T junction to Abuakwah.

The Organizer of the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration, Maxwell Amofa Boamah speaking to Soiree News voiced disappointment at the traffic frustration and pointed out key figures that effected the organization of the peace protest march.

“Ten minutes is enough to journey from Tanoso to Abuakwa yet we can stay in traffic for four hours. How long does it take from Kumasi to Accra, which means, it’s the same duration. We are fed up with these frustrations. Residents are sacked from work due to lateness, renting house has been tough for property owners and the worst part is that, Investors are refusing to build companies for jobs at Abuakwah, why? This is because of the congestion,” he disclosed.

The angry campaigners revealed displeasure in the recent attitude of their Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for his lack of support towards their challenges. According to them, they instigated the demonstration to alert the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah of what they are going through however information they received on radio expressed them as angry opposition party members demonstrating against the government.

“We heard that the MCE has informed the Ashanti Regional Minister that we belong to the National Democratic Congress campaigning against the government”

“This protest is beyond NDC’s definition. Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency does not belong to NDC. It is the seat of the New Patriotic Party therefore a peaceful demonstration like this demanded his attention”

“This is not about political issues. We have connived with the NDC, NPP, PPP and CPP. This is a coalition to address the issues of the District therefore if he cannot support us, he should step back for we know very well that he is incompetent,” they addressed.

The demonstrators further warned the Member of Parliament, Hon. Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere to be very careful in the upcoming elections for they ‘are not going to surrender their sovereignty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).”

“Nana Addo, we will show you in 2020,” they ended.
