The Minister of Information, Hon Kojo Nkrumah has responded to former President John Dramani Mahama’s teases on Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s age.

According to the Information Minister at a press briefing in the capital of the Ashanti Region, God is the custodian of lives therefore it is unfortunate that such age -mockery is coming out from a former leader of Ghana who should have known better.

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) made assertions whiles speaking in Nadowli on a campaign tour imploring voters to consider the age differences of Presidential candidates when voting in the December polls hitting out that voters’ may live to suffer the effects of their decisions if they choose leaders advanced in age.

President Akufo-Addo is 76 years and Mahama is 60 years old. Asked on his say about the circulating video of the former president, Hon. Kojo Nkrumah asserted the 2020 campaign was of the interpretation of accountable leadership between the NDC and the incumbent NPP to Ghanaians yet the opposition party’s practical jokes mean they have nothing to boast of as far as records are concerned.

“I'm sure you have seen the video quiet recently from the former president that he (Nana Akufo Addo) is older and therefore will die early. It’s very unfortunate,” he said.

“The president has always said that we are all in the hands of God. But for those whose political fortunes depend on his ill health and age, he leaves them in the hands of God.

“We were under the impression that this campaign was one of issues, comparing records, and putting forth a credible vision, not just a list of promises. So if you’re those who want to talk about age and say he (Nana Addo) will die early, I'm sure Ghanaians have heard all these stories and have also seen how much energy and hard work he puts up too and they can be rest assured he will continue with same.

The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency further revealed that two things distinct Nana Akufo Addo’s four years of reign from the National Democratic Congress eight years governance - sincerity and competence.

He assured that the President would be able to effectively carry out his responsibilities as the ECOWAS chairman and Ghana’s presidency despite his age.

“President Akufo-Addo takes his work very seriously. Yes, he is advanced in age but he takes his work very seriously,” Hon Oppong Nkrumah continued.

“He arrived in Ghana last night here in Kumasi and as I am speaking, at 9 am he is moving to Bono East and Ahafo on a six-day tour. Some may wonder that for an older man why is he able to do all of these that even younger persons struggle to do.

“I mean if I dare say, for 2016 campaign, you would realize that the then-president was flying around in helicopters in an attempt to catch up with travels across the country. President Akufo Addo even at his age does not do that. He gets on the road every now and then, he s going to do it in the next six days engaging and seeing at first hand. It’s because he takes his work seriously.

“He also builds competent teams and assigns them tasks to assist him. so at every point in time, when he supervises he gets good work. And you can tell from the kind of work that is been done by his ministers and appointees in various areas.

“And we believe that his work at ECOWAS will reflect that same competence and working through delegation and with other people to ensure that he gets the results,” he ended.
