President of the Concern Youth of Asante, Dr. Nana Agyenim Boateng says Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party government never regarded the significance of the Local Movie Industry following his decision to build a movie theatre in his hometown.

Kumasi has been the stronghold of Ghana's local Movies, creating varieties of actors and actresses on television screens to entertain and educate the viewer during his or her own convenient time yet infrastructures needed by stakeholders for quality productions have been denied many times by past governors.

The group established to fight for the progress and development of Asanteman on Tuesday, September 7, 2020, addressed the press at the center for National Culture on political perturbing issues affecting the Ashanti Region.

Many issues including the lack of infrastructural projects for the welfare of citizens is lacking in the Ashanti Region yet constituents have always held to their end of the bargain by ensuring victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

One key decision, which has panned the interest of the group against the NPP government, is the building of a movie theater at Akyim-Kyebi in the Eastern Region instead of Kumasi, the foundation of Akan Movie production in Ghana.

The President of the association believes the decision made by Nana Addo is a slap in the face of Asantes therefore if no action is taken to make the NPP realize the impact constituents have in determining who the ruler of the country is, they would be taken for granted.

“Is it not interesting for Nana Addo to establish movie theater at Akyim-Kyebi where not even a single soul in the area is known to be an actor or actress whereas we have the likes of Lil-Win, Kwaku Manu, Kyeiwaa, Mercy Asiedu, Kwadwo Poku Mahala, Agya Koo just to mention but a few who are struggling to even rent hotels for good movies,” he said.

A one-week ultimatum has been given to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to account for what he has done in his first term as president in the Ashanti Region.
