President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has challenged opposition parties that manipulating the Electoral Commission to win next year’s elections is not part of his policies to continue serving the people of Ghana in the next four years.

He has revealed confidence in Ghanaians to decide his fate as president next year.

The Electoral Commission led by the Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa paid a courtesy call to the president as part of their final discussions with its stakeholders at the Jubilee House. Earlier discussions has transpired between Ghana’s three formal presidents, Jerry Joh Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama to deliberate on how to maintain peace and tranquility ahead of the 2020 elections. Religious leaders and other stakeholders have also had their fragment of the visit by the Commission.

The president explained that his position as the leader of the nation gives him no additional right to manipulate the electoral body rather; it is his duty to offer maximum support to the Commission to deliver their mandates as defined by the constitution. He outlined that his limitation under the law in the democratic system of Ghana is on the same foundation as citizens in wanting democracy to work.

The appointment of Mrs. Jean Mensa by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has fueled fear and tension among opposition parties for the reason that the New Patriotic Party will be preferred by the Electoral Commission due to their leader's affiliation with the former Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA). Nana Addo has therefore challenged all stakeholders that ‘he does not need the support of the EC to win an election’ adding that he will want to win polls in which the electorate had the opportunity to make a free and open choice.

He further counseled the Commission to work with integrity in the absence of manipulation; a solution vital for the people’s direction.
