MPs in Ghana will examine a $1.5 billion Covid funding expenditure

A decision to launch a probe into the use of $1.5 billion (£1.2 billion) in Covid-19 funding in Ghana has been authorized by the country's lawmakers.

It comes after allegations of inconsistencies in payments and receipts that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta presented to the legislature.

When the minister stood before parliament on Wednesday, opposition lawmakers claimed he did not provide a compelling justification.

However, the minister claimed on Wednesday that the administration had used the cash responsibly and openly.

Nevertheless, Parliament's Speaker Alban Bagbin directed the finance and health committees to look into how the monies were managed.

The funds were allotted to slow the virus's spread and protect Ghanaians from the pandemic's financial effects.
