The Minority in Parliament through its immediate past ranking Member on Local Government Committee and Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo Constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has stated clearly that, President Akufo-Addo is violating Article 89 clause 1C of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Mr Lantey explained that Article 89 clause 1C has spelt out how counsel of State should be constituted, by selecting two members from each Assembly to form the electoral college to elect the Regional counsel of State members.

He alleged that, apart from the former chief justice, former chief of Defence Staff and former Inspector General of Police, and some few others, the rest are to be voted for before they could be part of the Counsel of State but President Akufo-Addo is using his Acting Metro Municipal and District Chie Executives (MMDCEs) and Presiding members to vote to elect the members of the Counsel of State.

Mr Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye stressed that the Minority, the Immediate past members on the Local Government Committee would not sit unconcern to allow President Akufo-Addo to breach the law of Ghana with respect to Article 89 clause 1C on how to elect members to form Counsel of State.

But the Honorable Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Majority chief whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh responded to the claims by the Minority.

According to Mr Dompreh, President Akufo-Addo has not violated any part of the 1992 Constitution as claimed.

Mr Annoh Dompreh urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members of Parliament and minority for that matter not to be raising false alarm and baseless allegations to allow the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Akufo-Addo to govern the country as Ghanaians have mandated him to.
