Minister Yvonne: I'm not into music for the attention

Minister Yvonne: I'm not into music for the attention

Three years have passed since Ghanaian gospel singer Yvonne Asamoah-Tawiah, often known as Minister, left Ghana for the UK. Yvonne began performing professionally and has already won a sizable amount of accolades.

The artist has received awards during this time, including Best Gospel Song of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards UK in 2022 and Best Songwriter of the Year at the Maranatha Awards USA in 2022.

Not only that, but she also won Best Gospel Song of the Year and Gospel Artiste of the Year at the 2021 Ghana Music Awards UK.

While many in her position would be ecstatic at such incredible growth in music in just 36 months, Minister Yvonne, a British Army officer, told Graphic Showbiz in an interview that winning accolades is not her main goal.

Minister Yvonne, who celebrated three years in the music industry on Friday, March 31, says she has made many sacrifices, including losing close relationships, and she does not want to be sidetracked by accolades.

"I'm not saying that winning accolades is bad, but right now, I truly don't care since I make music to have an impact on my generation and not for fame or notoriety.

Of course, this is not to argue that receiving praise for my work is bad, but she insisted that her motivation for making music was not to win prizes.

At the age of 19, Minister Yvonne began to compose music. She joined her church choir at the time, not knowing that she would be joining it professionally after a few years.

She did, however, release her first song and follow it up with her debut album, named Faith, last year, more than ten years later.

Songs like Heal the Land, Hyebr Sesafo, Give Me Rest, Abundance of Grace, and Shidaa with MOGmusic were included in the album's ten tracks.

Conqueror, Besuka, Unchangeable God, and Give Me Rest are some of her other songs.

Minister Yvonne recalled one of her most satisfying experiences with Graphic Showbiz: she was in charge of the British Army Band during Black History Month in October 2021.

She said, "I was published in Black History Month Magazine in the UK the same year.

She also thanked her team, particularly her husband Fii Mensah, for their unwavering support of both her musical career and her charitable endeavors with the YAT Ministry Foundation.
