Menstruation should not be a barrier to girl education - Nana Ama Gyankoma Asirifi

The Bono regional health promotion officer, Nana Ama Gyankoma Asirifi has disclosed that stigmatization against girls discouraged them from going to school during menstruation.

She said this on the sideline of the celebration of this year's menstrual health and hygiene day which falls on 28th May every year.

In an interview with Wenchi-based Radio West Africa monitored by soireenews.com Nana Ama Gyankoma Asirifi said menstruation should not be a barrier to girls' education and called on NGOs, and individuals to support school girls to provide them with sanitary pads.

She also admonished parents to educate their wards on menstrual hygiene management.

Nana Ama Gyankoma Asirifi again appealed to the government to subsidize the prices of sanitary pads to make them affordable to school girls.

The objective of Menstrual Hygiene Day is to unite the voices and actions of non-profit organizations, government agencies, individuals, and the media to promote good menstrual health and hygiene for everyone all over the globe.

The day aims to break the silence, raise awareness, and change negative social norms surrounding menstrual health and hygiene.

The theme of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2022 is “to create a world where no woman or girl is held back because they menstruate by 2030.”
