The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Joseph Amiyuure Atura has expressed displeasure over the abandonment of the newly constructed ultra-modern abattoir at Yorogo, a suburb of the municipality.

The MCE claims posterity will judge the butchers over their refusal to put to use the newly constructed ultra-modern abattoir.

According to him, the assembly has invested huge resources to complete the abattoir, hence it will only be an act of wickedness if it is left to rot.

The ultra-modern abattoir which has its funding support from the World Banks was built and completed in 2018 but has been abandoned by the butchers.

Reasons for its abandonment, some reports attributed to the butchers, say the location of the new abattoir is far from the business capital.

The butchers claim the MCE failed to consult them before the construction of the facility.

But speaking at the first 2021 Ordinary Meeting of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly Mr. Atura noted that, “If the facility remains unutilized, posterity will not forgive us if we allow the building to rot.”

“As an assembly, we owe it a duty to ensure that the facility is put to judicious use and we cannot renege in our responsibility in that respect,” the MCE stated.

However, some of the butchers have insisted not to use the abattoir as a result of where it is situated.
