Just a few days after stating to media members that he's completely finished with boxing, former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather (50-0) took to social media to announce that he's coming out of retirement in 2020.

Mayweather retired from the sport back in 2017, after stopping UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a mega-bout that generated over 4 million buys on pay-per-view.

“I’ve got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth,” Mayweather told Reuters on Tuesday. “Boxing is a very, very brutal sport. In the last few years a lot of fighters have died inside that squared circle. You have got to know when to hang it up. I had a great career."

But on Thursday night, Mayweather announced on his verified Instragram account that he's - "coming out of retirement in 2020."

Mayweather, 42-years-old, appeared in the ring on New Year's Eve, when he traveled to Japan to take part in an exhibition bout where he demolished Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a round.

The undefeated boxer told media members that he was still open to the idea of doing exhibitions in the future.

“I’ll still travel and do exhibitions. I make great money doing exhibitions — between $10 and $30 million,” Mayweather said. “I think I make more doing that than most fighters make fighting.”

Mayweather is also the master of the bait and switch when it comes to social media. Earlier this year he was dropping numerous hints of a potential crossover to MMA - which ultimately never came close to happening. And in 2018, he was also dropping hints regarding a potential rematch with Manny Pacquiao - and then later stated that he wasn't interested in a second fight.

Mayweather also has a habit of making announcements during big fight weeks. Ironically, his promotional company is handling the Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz rematch on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The former pound-for-pound king was recently courtside at an NBA game with UFC President Dana White, and claimed that something big was coming in 2020. At one point, Mayweather was baiting the idea of facing UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov in another cross-sport boxing match.

Mayweather has not taken part in a boxing match, with an actual boxer, since his September 2015 twelve round decision win over Andre Berto. Mayweather will turn 43 in February.
