Jose Mourinho has denied assertions that he is enjoying Manchester United’s recent sink in the Premier League.

The Red Devils on Sunday lost to West ham United at the London Stadium and slipped to eight on the premier league table, 10 points off the league leaders, Liverpool FC.

"Maybe people think that I'm enjoying the situation but I'm not. I have people at the club that I love and I have a lot of respect for the fans. I think they are going to be really in trouble to get not just into the top four but the top six. It's with a sad feeling that I say that."

According to the former manager of the club, a Champions League spot in the top four will be a great achievement for the Red Devils with such a young squad.

"I don't think they are a team capable of fighting for the top two," Mourinho said. "However, a good achievement for them would be to finish in the top four and get back into the Champions League.

"What are the objectives of the club? It's very important for everybody to share and agree with the objectives.

"If internally the objective is to finish in the top four and to build from there, with the team not thinking about fighting for the title at all, I think it is the perfect environment to try to bring some young players through and to build something for the future.

”They are far (from the top two)," he added.

Jose Mourinho, who was sacked in his third season as manager of Manchester United revealed as a pundit on Sky Sports yesterday after United loss that, he was building up a work together team which could respond well in competitions not just as young boys but players with the ambition to fulfil objectives.  He weighed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer team as ‘worse than before’.

"It's difficult for me to answer. For two seasons, I could feel lots of positives things; obviously, the third season was not good enough. I was sacked - probably deservedly, because the final responsibility comes as a manager - but the sad reality is they're worse than before.

Manchester United brought in Harry Maguire to bolster their defense Leicester City for a fee of $97m making him the world’s most expensive defender, Aaron Wan Bissaka from Palace and Daniel James from Swansea City. They maintained Paul Pogba and sold out Romelu Lukaku to Inter. Alexis Sanchez also joined the Italians on a season loan leaving Rashford, Anthony Martial and young Mason Greenwood upfront.
