May 13 Declared Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr Celebration

May 13, 2021, which falls on Thursday has been declared as a statutory Public Holiday by the Minister for Interior, Honorable Ambrose Dery.

The day is set aside to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Minister's revealed in a press statement copied to the media.

Eid ul-Fitr, which is merrymaking after the end of fasting, also, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. 

This religious Eid is the only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast.

On Eid day, Muslims across the world give gifts, food items and visit family and friends for successful month-long fasting.

They also gather at their various mosques and open places in their localities to supplicate and give thanks to Allah.

DECLARATION OF THURSDAY, 13TH MAY, 2021 AS A STATUTORY PUBLIC HOLIDAY

The general public is hereby informed that Thursday, 13th May 2021 which marks Eid-ul-Fitr, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.
