Massive Reaction As Togbe Afede Refunds ¢360,000 Paid Him To Government

Togbe Afede XIV has got netizens’ surprise after he refunded 360, 000 cedis paid to him by the government.

The issue of the ex gratia was talked about by a lot of people and on a lot of platforms because people were not in agreement due to the economic hardships that have befallen Ghanaians.

Aside from this, the unnecessary spending by the government has been heavily criticized because people are not ready for this kind of expenditure when our income is not promising.

Whiles paying this amount into the government coffers, he revealed that he was in opposition to the payment of this huge sum of money.

And his reason is that the payment is to serve the interest of the receiver but according to him, the taxpayers, the workers, and all including himself who are doing their work to serve the country are doing so because of the love they have for this country.

He was clear on the fact that he was not interested in benefitting this much by serving his country and this is something he is receiving much applause for.

Many people would have gladly accepted this and refuse to make any refunds of this nature.

The nation is in financial crisis and we are in dye need of funding. This is why the e-levy was implemented in the first place.

The e-levy is purported to bring more income and relieve Ghanaians from the pains that this economy is going through. The ex gratia as most people have heard about is paid to some people without any legal obligation. In a suffering country like Ghana, there is no way an amount of 36,000 cedis should be paid to another person.

There are more debts to be covered and more funds to be secured by the government. Payment of these huge sums should be reconsidered to meet the needs of the people.
