The National Democratic Congress at Asawasi has disqualified Massawudu Mubarick from contending in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

The news came as a shock to strong NDC supporters in the constituency who had the Parliamentary aspirant at heart. According to reports, Mubarick filed a petition against being refused forms by the NDC to contest against Hon. Muntaka to the Doe Adjaho Committee.

The aspiring Member of Parliament for Asawasi was prevented from filing his nomination at NDC Regional Office two months ago at Amakom. The displeasure of supporters in the action by the regional executives caused them to besiege the office, which was not yet opened. It took the involvement of heavily armed security personnel to prevent the group from causing any mayhem.

According to statement issued by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, 3, August, 2019 per the Doe Adjaho Committee’s recommendation, Mr. Massawudu has been “disqualified to contest the Asawase Constituency for the 2020 elections.”

The ban means Hon. Muntaka Mubarak will go unopposed in the upcoming Asawasi Parliamentary primaries.

“By this decision, Hon. Mubarak goes unopposed, and for that matter, stands elected as the parliamentary candidate for the Asawase Constituency,” the statement read.

Hon. Massawudu Mubarak is yet to respond to the ruling by the Doe Adjaho Committee after he revealed on July 24, 2019 that he will exercise his right as a citizen of the country if denied by the National Democratic Congress from contesting.

“I want to believe that we all in the interest of the party will want to avoid any settlement out of the party channels. In the event that the party is not able to resolve it, I will seek to proceed further to seek redress. If the party does not resolve it, I will exercise my right as a citizen of this country.”

Masawudu explained that contesting for a position in the NDC follows a hierarchy therefore when his forms were prevented at the regional level, there was the need for him to submit them at the party headquarters with reasonable clarification.

“…you move to the next level in the party hierarchy to submit your forms and so when I was blocked from submitting at the constituency office, and obviously at the regional office, I proceeded to the national headquarters before 5p.m.

Masawudu Mubarick was determined to contest for the Asawasi parliamentary seat as an independent candidate had the NDC disallowed his nomination.

“If my followers or the grass roots believe that I should pursue the issue further at the end of the day, I will do whatever the grounds ask me to do because we are fighting this battle together but at the end of the day, justice must be served and we are bent on achieving that so that we can secure and safeguard the seat for 2020,” he intimated.
