Charged on two counts of robbery, contrary to section 149 of the criminal offences code 1960(Act 29) and two assault, contrary to section 69 of criminal Act 1960,(Act 29) but same was struck out.

Mason sentenced to  10 year in prison

The Ashaiman circuit court has sentenced a mason to 10 years in prison for the oftence of robbery. Abdul Malik Ahmed received a shocker of his life when the Ashaiman circuit court as per the charge sheet gave him a 10 year jail term.

Charged on two counts of robbery, contrary to section 149 of the criminal offences code 1960(Act 29) and two assault, contrary to section 69 of criminal Act 1960,(Act 29) but same was struck out.

The court turned down the explanation of the accused person stating that the explanation does not amount to defence therefore enter a plea of guilty to the accused. But before the judgment, the prosecutor applied to abandon count two and same was granted, struck out thereby discharging the accused person on count two. Prosecution: Chief Inspector Gloria Karikari presenting the D/Inpector Evans Sosoo investigative case told court that the complainant, Dorcas Sai, aged 19, a trader and the accused, Abdul Malik Ahmed, aged 21,a mason reside at Dodowa. She told the court that on 1/03/2023 at about 8:pm, the complainant was on a phone call walking on the street of Ghanata Senior High School, Dodowa. On reaching a section of the road, the accused emerged from the darkness and ordered the complainant to stop. The accused immediately attacked the complainant from behind and forcibly tried to snatch the complainant's Samsung A3 mobile phone from her but the complainant resisted. She told the court that the accused person realizing the defence of the complainant pushed her into the nearby gutter, where both of them fell but the accused overcome the resistance of the complainant and stole the phone. Whilst fleeing, the complainant, who was trapped in the gutter, managed to shout for help which attracted some inhabitants and students of Ghanata, who chased the accused and arrested him with the phone and handed him over to the police. She told the court that the complainant came to the police station and identified the accused as her attacker and also identified the phone retrieved from the accused as hers. The complainant who sustained injuries on her thigh and arm was given Police medical form to attend hospital for treatment. After investigations, the accused was charged with the offence and put before this honourable court.
