The Ashaiman Circuit court has sentenced a mason to 3 years in prison on count one and 5 years on count two.

The sentences are to run concurrently. The accused,Michael Assor was charged on two counts of causing unlawful damage:contrary to section 172 of the criminal offences Act 1960 (Act 29) and stealing contrary to section 124(1) of the criminal offences Act 1960(Act 29).

Even though, the accused pleaded guilty simplicita without wasting the time of the court, the judge believes that the accused must be punished to serve as deterrent to others.

The court presided over by His Honour Simon Gaga prior to sentencing noted that the incident of stealing has been on ascendancy in the municipality therefore the accused must be punished to serve as deterrent to others.

Police was therefore ordered to release the rods to the plaintiff. Prosecuting;ASP Mrs. D. Boadu Pepra Presenting the D/Inspector Dorcas Ofosua I/case told the court that the complainant, Ishaque Sulley age 22 years old is a security man residing at China Shandonia Estate while the accused Michael Asor is a 30 year old mason residing at Promiseland. ASP Mrs. D. Boadu Pepra told the court that the complainant and his people picked intelligence that the accused person had been breaking their concrete gutter and stealing iron rods from it so they decided to lay ambush and monitor the situation.

ASP Mrs. D. Boadu Pepra further told the court that the accused person on the 7th day of May,2023 went into the China Shandonia Estate and removed iron rods from each slab. In the process,he caused damage to the gutter slabs valued at GHS 21,200 and removed the iron rods in the slabs.

ASP Mrs. D. Boadu Pepra said in the process of causing damage and stealing the iron rods valued at GHS800.00 from the slabs, he was arrested by the complainant and 70 pieces of the iron rods were retrieved from him and brought to the Kanewu Police station where a report was made.

ASP Mrs. D. Boadu Pepra told the court that the accused was cautioned and after investigations, accused was charged with the offences and put before this honourable court.
