Manchester United draw 2-2 in their pre-season with Brentford

Although the result wasn't ideal for Solskjaer it was another great run out for his side against well-drilled opposition as Diogo Dalot and Donny van de Beek earned their first minutes of the summer.

Manchester United were back in pre-season action on Wednesday night as they faced Premier League new boys Brentford in their third friendly fixture of the summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side took the lead early on after a brilliant volley from academy star Anthony Elanga but went in level at the break after another wonderful effort from Shandon Baptiste.

The Red Devils regained their lead five minutes into the second half after a stupendous striker from Andreas Pereira as he volleyed in off the bar from 25-yards out, one of the finest Old Trafford has seen.

However, it would end level after Bryan Mbuemo netted a second for Brentford when he capitalized on a defensive error.

Brentford showed why they got promoted to the top flight last season by twice coming from behind to draw an entertaining game.

Earlier in the day, Austin had urged Man United to use any remaining money in their transfer kitty to sign England defender Kieran Trippier.

The former Southampton man said, “Wan-Bissaka is not up to the required quality. We played them the other day, and I know it was only a pre-season friendly.

“But they need to go all out for Kieran Trippier. That’s who they’re crying out for.

“Wan-Bissaka can’t defend and his final ball is not what a centre-forward wants, it’s not what Edinson Cavani wants, it’s not what Marcus Rashford wants.”

It was exactly what Elanga wanted though as the pair linked up to put the Red Devils ahead early on.
