Manchester United are reportedly close to signing Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

The Spaniard has been linked with Liverpool after talks broke off to extend his contract with the German club.

The 29-year old is speculated to be interested to move to the Premier League, which is likely to be his final destination before he retires from active football.

He seems to have surpassed the level of being influenced to keep playing at the Allianz Arena assessing Hansi Flick's address that Thiago prefers experiencing another league.

"I also know, of course, that when you're at a certain age and you've already played in the Spanish league with Barcelona and in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, you feel the need to experience another big league,” Flick said.

"That is quite normal and that is also human. I'm trying my best to make sure Thiago stays here and that you can convince him to stay."

The Express has reported that Manchester United are close to signing the former Blaugrana midfielder as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks to strengthen and flair his midfield.

The future of Paul Pogba remains uncertain although he refused to rule out an exit or continue his stay at Manchester United, therefore a partner for Bruno Fernandes to supply balls upfront towards Martial and Rashford is necessary.

Liverpool have already lost Timo Werner to Chelsea after the club failed to activate the German's £52m release clause due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the finances of clubs.

Thiago is valued in the region of £43m and it's likely the Reds would require his creativeness to boost their chances of defending the league title next season.
