A 56-year-old fisherman, Daniel Adzalo has died at Akatsi in the Volta Region in the early hours of Monday, 5 April 2021 after he was knocked down by an overspeeding Toyota Camry car.

The car with registration number GC-315-17 was said to have been traveling from Accra towards Aflao and suddenly knocked down the old man who was crossing the road to Akatsi Kitapilarga for fishing.

The accident followed a gruesome one on the same stretch, Tatorme of the Accra, Aflao, Dzodze Highway on Sunday, 14 March 2021 when a 10-year-old boy, Ernest Adabla, suffered a bone fracture and currently receiving medical treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital.

According to residents, in December 2020, a female artisan was also crushed to death at the same spot.

The Assemblyman for the area, Edward Doe Adade who disclosed the accident to the News team indicated that the stretch has become accident-prone due to the unavailability of speed rumps to enable drivers to reduce speeding.

He said, residents, have prepared to demonstrate the problem by blocking the road, pending approval from the needed authorities.

In March, residents in the area blocked portions of the road with demand from the District Chief Executive (DCE) Leo Nelson Adzidogah to seek the construction of rumps on the road after which the Assembly provided a temporary rump.

The body of the victim has been deposited at the St. Paul Hospital morgue in Dzodze by the Akatsi Police Commander for preservation.

However, residents are calling on the necessary stakeholders to intervene in the development by constructing permanent rumps.
