Former President of the Republic of Ghana and presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress has exhibited a true spirit of solidarity with drivers of the country by factoring our pressing needs in his manifesto.
John Mahama have proven that he is ready to listen and committed to ensuring our welfare as president as he has factored most of our desires in his manifesto.
Ahead of the manifesto launch, Former President Mahama engaged various driver unions comprising the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, True Drivers Union, Cargo Truck Drivers, Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) and more importantly our mother union the Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU).
Among the issues we tabled for him included an improvement in the nature NDC quality of our road network, improved and or modernized bus terminals with resting facilities for drivers, easy access to vehicle acquisition and ownership in terms of affordability among other matters.
It is gratifying to note that John Dramani Mahama and the NDC have paid attention to these matters and have them stayed in their manifesto ahead of the 2024 elections and even pledges to institute a pension system for us and also recognize our contribution to the national building agenda by setting aside a day to recognize and award drivers.
This offers us a gleaming hope that the transport sector shall witness a massive transformation and general welfare for both vehicle owners and drivers.
For the avoidance of doubt these laudable policies including the provision of a dedicated lane for Okada drivers on new roads to ensure safety and prevent road crashes.
In view of this we are giving Mahama a score of 80percent, Bawumia 15 and Alan Kyerematen 5percent regarding their intended measures to addressing drivers’ concerns by their future governments.
All Ghanaians bear true testament of the severe suffering drivers inflicted on drivers by the current government hence our justified cause to seek relief and we are convinced that Mahama offers that longing hope.
While we pledge our utmost support for Mahama and the NDC just as we did for Akufo Addo and Bawumia we are also cautioning him to be wary of deceit and disappointment by his government in the future as we shall not hesitate to oust him out of power.
We are therefore calling on all Ghanaians and particularly drivers to vote for change to safeguard our destiny and that of the nation Ghana. Thank You.
