Liverpool CONFIRM participation in FIFA Club World Cup Tournament in December

The Reds won the UEFA Champions League tournament, the ticket for European clubs to patronize in the FIFA tournament shared by six football federations across the World, i.e. winners of tournaments in Asia, South America, North America, Africa and Australia.

This year’s FIFA Club World Cup tournament will be played in Doha, the capital of Qatar from 11-21 December at three venues and Liverpool being the European representative have confirmed their participation.

The Reds won the UEFA Champions League tournament, the ticket for European clubs to patronize in the FIFA tournament shared by six football federations across the World, i.e. winners of tournaments in Asia, South America, North America, Africa and Australia.

 

 

The Asian AFC Champions League, African CAF Champions League, North American CONCACAF Champions League, South American Copa Libertadores, Oceanian OFC Champions League and European UEFA Champions League are competitions participating teams were declared champions before being allowed to partake in the FIFA tournament.

Liverpool Football Club, winners of the UEFA Champions League have confirmed their participation in this FIFA Club World Cup, despite their tough Premier League fixtures in December.

The Reds will join Al-Sadd Sports Club, host country who topped the 2018/19 edition of the Qatar Stars League, sealing the title with an emphatic 7-2 win over Al Ahli on 4 April. It is their second appearance after finishing third in 2011.


 

Africa’s Esperance Sportive de Tunis will feature after CAF's decision to award Esperance the title came more than three months after their two-legged final victory (1-1, 1-0) against Wydad Casablanca due to a disputed incident in the return leg.

Monterrey is the representative for North, Central America and Caribbean. They sealed their qualification for the FIFA Club World Cup on 1 May, having secured a 2-1 aggregate win over Mexican rivals Tigres UANL. It will be their fourth visit to the finals, equalling the Concacaf record held by Pachuca.

Hienghene Sport booked their place after a 1-0 win over fellow New Caledonians Magenta on 11 May. They will be the first side from the Pacific nation to appear at the finals. The teams for South America and Asia will be decided on the 23 and 24 November.

Liverpool’s confirmation means they could play in the Club World Cup final on December 21 in Doha, before a Premier League game at Leicester on Boxing Day. The club has revealed of “ taking part in a series of fact-finding meetings and consultations with various authorities, including FIFA, the Qatar Supreme Committee, the UK Foreign Office and a range of non-governmental organisations”.

 

 

Real Madrid are the current winners of the tournament after defeating Al-Ain 4–1 in the final of the 2018 edition, to make it their fourth title in the competition and to become the first team ever to win it three years in a row and four times in total in the tournament's history.
