Nathaniel Philips believes Liverpool can excel past their Champions League quarter-finals opponents, Real Madrid in Spain if they put away complacency and take up their challengers as one of the favorites in the competition.

The 24-year old has been a reliable guardian at the Reds defensive department in the Champions League competition and his partnership with Ozan Kabak helped the Reds to keep a clean sheet in both legs of the round of 16 against RB Leipzig where Salah and Mane combined to sink last seasons semi finalist by a 4-0 aggregate.

Liverpool have lost their last three games against Real Madrid in the European club tournament and will be looking to redeem themselves this time around.

The Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Tuesday night will be the center of action and according to the Reds defender, every game must be honored like they are coming up against the best opposition.

“They certainly are [an iconic club],” he told UEFA. “And that shows in what they’ve achieved as a club, the trophies they’ve won and the level they’ve maintained for years and years, and the players that have represented them as well.

“But when you’re coming up against them as opposition, you don’t look at that. At the same time, Liverpool are on the same level in terms of what they’ve achieved as a club. So, when you’re going into a game like that you’ve got to treat it like just another game.

“Obviously you’re going to be coming up against top players and better players but, in my opinion, you’ve got to treat every game like you’re going to be coming up against the best opposition you’ve ever faced so that you’re on your best game, and it’ll be no different in that game.”

Liverpool conquered Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday by 3-0 in the Premier League- two goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah's solo effort.
