Former Comorian President Ahmed Abdallah Sambi has been accused with high treason, and state prosecutors have sought a court to condemn him to life in jail.

Sambi, 64, who served as president from 2006 to 2011 and has been imprisoned since 2018 on suspicion of corruption.

He is accused of selling the nation's passports to stateless people residing in Gulf states.

According to the privately owned Comoros Infos website, he was tried in absentia after declining to show up in court.

On November 28, he is scheduled to get a sentence.
