Vice President of Ghana, Mahamadu Bawumia has encouraged students in the application of science and technology to develop innovative solutions that will help accelerate the growth of the society.

“As Information and Communication Technology has been included in the new basic curriculum, let us encourage the youth to scale up the application of science and technology to develop innovative solutions that will support and accelerate the growth and development”

He revealed these words on Friday when Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) embarked on a GH¢2,000,000,00 project as part of its corporate social responsibility to support government’s effort through its charity wing.

The construction will see a 600-bed girls’ dormitory and a housemistress’ bungalow at the Tamale Senior High Technical School (TAMASCO); with the aim of improving girls’ education in Ghana.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia joined officials of the MTN Ghana and the school authorities to break the grounds for the commencement of the project. He described the initiative as “the largest infrastructure investment since in TAMASCO since its establishment”.

“It is an investment in the empowerment of the adolescent girl, which is important in breaking the intergenerational transmission of poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination, and building a better future for our girls,” Dr. Bawumia addressed the gathering on Friday and commended MTN  Ghana Foundation for their immense support and investing towards the socio-economic advancement of the nation.

The project when completed will tally MTN’s project undertaken since its establishment to 148 at the cost of 13.5 million dollars in the country in 12 years.

Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Selorm Adadevoh encouraged people on the need to create an enabling environment for the Youth to unleash their potentials expressing belief that such projects will help to unlock opportunities for all in the school.

He revealed that on completion of the dormitory, the place will be fully furnished and fitted with beds to suit students’ needs. He called on the contractor to collaborate and ensure that the project was completed on schedule.

The school expressed gratitude to MTN through Mr. Suaib Wilberforce Adams, Headmaster for their kind act in addressing a key need of the school.

The Tamale Senior High Technical School has a female student population of 1,200 but its girls’ dormitory can only accommodate 600 students,
