Let Peace Prevail In Bawku—Pentecost Presiding Elder Daniel Tagoe Declares

Presiding Elder of Church of Pentecost Mamprobi Bethel in the Greater Accra Region, Elder Daniel Nii Arde Tagoe, has delved into the protracted conflict in Bawku.

The man of God lamented that the long unending conflict spanning several decades has claimed over 300 lives since November 2021, leaving a devastating impact on the socio-economic lives of the thousands of people living in the towns and adjoining districts.

Visibly worried about the huge lost of lives and properties as a result of protracted conflict in Bawku, Elder Tagoe stressed that he believes that the heartbreaking conflict has reached the level for which all and sundry need to intervene to ensure that there is peaceful coexistence in the area.

According to Elder Tagoe who doubles as the Principal Head of the Nii Arde Nkpa family in Accra, it is a high time the leadership of Christian Council of Ghana, other key traditional office holders and religious leaders to work with the government and state security agencies and moslem community to settle the ongoing bloody clashes in Bawku.

"I am calling on all the key traditional and religious leaders including moslem community leaders to work closely with the central government and state security agencies to dialogue  between the people of Kusasis and Mamprusis to ceasefire in order to  ensure that peace is prevailed in Bawku since the continous clashes in the area pose national security threats to West Africa  as well impact on the youth livelihoods.

"We shouldn't see Bawku as the moslem community for matter we should all sit down uncocern to the leave the people in the area to solely delve with their conflict. So l think that it is now a time for all and sundry to come together to help the people in Bawku to find lasting solution to their long unending conflict which has been destroying development in Bawku," he appealed.

Elder Tagoe called on people in Kusasis and Mamprusis to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, justice and national unity in his Easter message delivered at the sermon held at the Church of Pentecost Mamprobi Bethel in Accra on Sunday April 20, 2025.

Background

The nagging dispute between the Kusasis and Mamprusis seems to be eroding all the gains chalked up by the municipality over the years, and turning Bawku into a ghost town due to heightened insecurity.

The impact of the crisis has caused hundreds of private and public sector workers, including teachers and nurses, to flee to other districts for fear of their lives since they no longer feel safe to live and work in any part of the town.

Addressing the congregations of the church, elder Tagoe minced no words when he vehemently kicked against the statement to the effect that the traditional office holders are not true Christians.

"I am saying that in the situation people think
that the individuals who were installed traditional office leaders or chiefs/queemothers are persons who are idol worshippers or individuals who practice idolatry, which is the act of worshipping idols or images that are not God is completely lies.

He stated that it is wrong impression created by some people to the effect that chiefs are not Christians.

Elder Tagoe jumped into a strong defend, stressing that he believes that the traditional office holders are not limited in Christianity.
