Lawyer Ama Frimpomaa Donates Sanitary Pads to Students in Sunyani West Municipality

Mr. Issah Baffoe, the Municipal Education Director for Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region has opined that its unfortunate menstrual practices are still clouded by socio-cultural and religious constraints in Ghana which leads to ill health, school absenteeism, and low self-confidence among others on the adolescent girl.

He stated that menstruation is a natural biological process experienced by all adolescent girls and it shouldn’t be treated as a taboo.

To eradicate the menace and stigmatization, the adolescent girl faces during menstruation in the Sunyani West Municipality, Lawyer Ama Frimpomaa, a philanthropist and a politician is sensitizing Ghanaians on menstruation and its related issues and to this effect Lawyer, Ama Frimpomaa has distributed thousands of sanitary pads to the students of Odumaseman Senior High School.

The move is to make sanitary pads available and accessible to all adolescent girls whilst encouraging parents, to assist their girls in that natural process.

Lawyer Ama Frimpomaa is known for her generosity in the constituency ranging from provisions of school uniforms, drilling of bole holes, donations to orphans, and financial contributions among others.

The education director, Mr. Issah Baffoe receiving the items on behalf of the girls commended Lawyer Ama Frimpomaa for her generosity and promised the items will be used for their intended purpose.

Mrs. Bertha Ampadu who presented the items on behalf of Lawyer Ama Frimpomaa emphasized menstrual health as a right for girls just as the right to education and life. “Girls need the right information on their reproductive health and especially to understand their body before they reach puberty, so they don’t feel vulnerable at its onset of menarche”, she added.

She indicated that it is time Ghanaians shy away from old stereotypes in the society and that menstruation must not remain a myth.

She added that Lawyer Ama Frimpomaa will continue to play her part in the quest to make Sunyani West Municipality a better place for all.
