The Kwahu Tradional Council has officially cancelled this year"s edition of the annual Kwahu Easter Celebrations due to the threat the Coronavirus pandemic poses. 

The Kwahu Festival is made up of a number of activities which are held annually as part of the Easter celebrations and it has now been suspended following the president's directive to halt all large gatherings in Ghana due to the Coronavirus pandemic. 

In the president's address on Sunday, March 15, 2020, he declared that public gatherings, including funerals, workshops, conferences, religious activities, sporting events, festivals and political activities have been suspended for the next four weeks.

The ban became necessary after the initial count of two COVID-19 cases shot up to six in the space of four days. According to the directive that a band has been place on all Karebe gatherings, the Kwahu traditional council released a press statement that listed the number of it's activities that would be inevitably affected by the ban. 

According to the release, all engagements by Nananom within the Kwahu Traditional Council are cancelled and that Akwasidae should be celebrated with minimal contacts and restricted to indoor tradional ceremonies.

The press release also admonishes market women to take necessary steps to prevent contact with the deadly virus and chiefs are to limit travelling. The media in Kwahu is also cautioned against causing fear and panic in their reportage.
