Jurgen Klopp was emotional on Thursday night seeing his side swept aside by sharp-razor Manchester City at the Etihad despite been crowned Premier League Champions.

Kevin De Bruyne’s masterclass on the night intrigued the game as the Cityzens hit four past Liverpool. The Belgian opened the scores in the 25-minute after Gomex fouled 'slippery' Sterling in the 18-yard, Sterling added a second; Foden sealed the first half and Oxlade Chamberlain’s slid of Sterling’s effort into the net in the second half returned Guardiola's side to winning ways after the defeat to Chelsea.

The loss was the joint-heaviest defeat by a side already crowned Premier League champions in a season.

The German in the post-match interview refused to admit that his side lost direction when asked – he rather commended his boys and entreated that if that would make a good headline for the press, the message could be conveyed.

“If you want to lead the story in the direction that we were not focused on that game, then do it,” he told Geoff Shreeves in the post-match interview.

"I like my team how they set up. I think we proved that point. And City proved they are an unbelievably good team. Isn’t it nice that another team can be champions even when City is around and plays this kind of football?

“City are incredible. I’ve seen their games – they haven’t played a bad game all season. Even when they lost they still played really good football. But in the end the situation is like it is.”

Liverpool are top with 20 points separating them from the former.
