Keta MP urged FDA to address fallen palm oil standard in local markets

Member of Parliament for Keta within the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, Honourable Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey has urged the Food and Drugs Authority to as a matter of urgency address what he referred to as fallen standards of palm oil in the local markets.

The MP filed an urgent question in the House demanding the measures taken by the Food and Drugs Authority to address what he referred to as fallen standards of palm oil on the local markets. Responding to the question in the House, the Minister of Health, Honourable Kwaku Agyemang Manu noted that the Ministry has collaborated with FDA to recently develop a general food safety policy approved by the cabinet. But he was quick to state that though, it was launched recently but is yet to be implemented.

The Minister noted that upon full implementation of the said general food safety policy, all matters relating to food safety will be dealt with. In addition, the MP will like to know when the FDA establishes district offices across the country to easily identify issues of food safety from the district levels to ensure the safety of the populace.

The Minister said though there are plans to establish district offices across the country for monitoring and surveillance the country is constrained in terms of resources at the moment. He, therefore, urged that Ghanaians make use of the Regional Offices until such time they can establish offices at the district levels.

To enable the FDA to raise resources to finance its activities there calls for the authority to retain 100% of its internally generated funds instead of the current 70%.
