Kessben University College has graduated its first batch of students on Saturday, 21 st September 2019 at Abenase-Lake Road in the Bosomtwi District; Ashanti Region.

The College was established by Mr. Kwabena Kesse (Kessben) to offer the youth training with additional academic oriented facilities to enhance learning in a typical intellectual environment and prepare them for the job market.

159 students advanced from initial academic programmes; B SC. Business Administration, B SC. Mathematics, B SC. Information and Communication Technology, B.A. English Studies and Health Care Assistant Certificate, B SC. Business Administration with options in, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Human Resource Management. Others include B SC. Information and Communication Technology, Diploma in Business Administration, Diploma in Public Administration and Diploma in Media Communication.

Mr. Stephen Boateng, the Honorable Chancellor of the school during the program commended graduands for the ability to build a new phase of their life through knowledge acquisition. He motivated graduands not to be indolent after attaining such experience but to be determined and employ what has been imparted at their various work places.

“I have the assurance that if they put to work what has been instilled in them here, and go ahead to enrich themselves through attaining their Masters' Degree to enrich their capacity, they will go places,” he said.

“They should make sure to make a living out of the knowledge they have acquired and do away with misappropriating and stealing company’s money. The society must benefit from their capacity as graduates. Aside that, they should also put God first in their daily endeavors”.

Kessben University College as part of its corporate social responsibility has pioneered a ‘chancellor’ scheme, which awards scholarship to brilliant but needy students in the institution for four years. Mr. Stephen Boateng strengthened the policy and explained it purpose as an approach to support the needy. He explained that destitute students from the Senior High School with aggregate six to 15 are only welcome to be part of the scheme.

“The scholarship is to help the needy and empower them to attain certain heights in life. We also reward scholarship to excellent students who demands to press on in education. They might not be needy yet due to how they are excel, the school provides them the incentive to press on”.

According to Mr. Joseph Asuming, representative of the Regional Minister, the platform created by Mr. Stephen Boateng  is a honorary one therefore students must capitalize on the knowledge gained to exploit their skills to better the nation. He revealed that graduates were accepted in organizations to be only employees in the former days but the socio-economical era has provided the platform for advance students to be either employees, self-employed persons or employers.

“Gone are the days where we complete school and aspire to be only employees. There has been a drastic change. It’s either you become an employee, self-employed person or employer”.

“Students should not set their minds only to be employed but to be entrepreneurs. That is the habit of Kessben; he is a first class entrepreneur so it is needful for the students to learn that.”

He disclosed that the government’s duty towards the people is to create cooperate noble environment.

The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Abdul Mumin Haruun was present to grace the 1st Congregation of the Kessben University College. He expressed delight and advised the students to make others benefit from their knowledge through job creation. He challenged them not to be too reliable on ‘white collar jobs’.

The Regional Chief Imam revived the need for parents to further their wards into the Universities to prevent them from occupational drawbacks.

“It is needful for everyone to get involved in education. It is the hope of man therefore, failure to board on the educational train makes on a drop out. My advice to the graduands is to implement what they have learnt to help the society," he counselled.

Sheikh Abdul Mumin commended the Free Senior High School policy initiated by the government and encouraged parents to make the most of the educational program as a yardstick into the tertiary education.

“The initiator of the policy (the free Senior High School) thought well about Ghanaians. He was not greedy to keep the funds but invested them for the nurturing of Ghana’s future. The president must be commended and supported in order to shapen a better Ghana.” He ended.
